These tools have been selected with the user in mind. Most have been cleaned and are ready to use except for sharpening and a final tuning. This we leave for the user, knowing that each woodworker may use a different technique. We try to select tools only in the best condition . Although missing Japanning or paint does not detract from the overall function or use of the tool, we do try to offer planes with greater than 80% of the Japanning remaining. Please refer to the Order Information if you are not familiar with the condition grading system used for our tools.
User tools are for the most part a repeatable, stock item so it is quite possible that the actual tool offered may already be sold. A Coffin Smoothing Plane by Wm. Marples, Sheffield. Steel body with rosewood stuffing and brass fittings. A long and well established tool maker from from the early 1800s. Marples and his three sons produced metal planes, wooden planes and various edge tools. The business continued into the 1930s, purchasing many other tool makers businesses over the years. After this time they were also active in manufacturing tools for other trades, including cutlery and garden tools. The plane offered is in Good+ condition. Stock/Part Number: FW12143
