A Vernier Caliper By Negretti & Zambra, London. C1880. The Vernier is 17 1/2 inches long, made in bronze, brass and steel, fitted in a mahogany custom case. A convenient tool to measure the length of an object, the outer diameter or the inner diameter of a cylindrical object. Henry Negretti, 1817 - 1879, a resident of London since 1829, took Joseph Zambra (d1877) into partnership in 1850. Together they manufactured precision instruments such as photographic equipment, thermometers, barometers, telescopes, levels, theodolites, gun sights, calipers and more. Good++
